Senate Extends “Buy American“ Laws to Navy Ships

The legislation will require 100% of the components for naval ships to be manufactured in the U.S. by 2033.

The U.S. Senate unanimously approved legislation mandating all U.S. Navy ships’ components be manufactured 100 percent in the U.S. by 2033. Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin introduced the amendment, which passed and was added to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“Wisconsin has a proud tradition of shipbuilding, producing world-class products made by American workers that defend our freedom at home and abroad,” Senator Baldwin stated. “By strengthening Buy America requirements for our shipbuilding industry, we can ensure that taxpayer dollars are not only going toward keeping us safe, but also supporting American jobs, growing our economy, and maintaining a defense industrial base that is critical to our national security.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Baldwin as she seeks to increase the use of domestic manufacturing for U.S. naval equipment.
  • For wisdom for members of the Senate as they consider and debate appropriations for the coming fiscal year.
